This week, the Golden’s Bridge Fire Department participated in what is becoming an annual community event at John Jay High School. Nearly 500 students at John Jay High School pushed their limits during this two-day fitness event coordinated and run with our fellow firefighters at Katonah, South Salem, and Vista Fire Departments.
Students ran with firefighting hand tools, hoisted sledgehammers, crawled through tight spaces while wearing air packs, climbed bleachers with firefighting hose, and completed a relay of real-life firefighting challenges. The goal? To give students a firsthand look at the strength, endurance, and teamwork it takes to be a firefighter—and they stepped up in a big way.
The event wasn’t just fun—it was eye-opening. Students also had the chance to talk with firefighters about volunteer opportunities in their local departments.
