| With deep sadness, we announce the passing of George Roberts a life member of the department. George joined the department in 1969. Serving as Lieutenant from 1978 to 1980. He archived 25 year life membership in 1994.
Born on January 26th, 1936, in New York, NY to Phoebe (Frank) and Harry Roberts, he was an only child, but had a large extended family throughout Massachusetts where he would often spend his summers. He attended Manhattan College, earning a bachelor's degree in political science in 1959. He went on to obtain his Doctor of Jurisprudence from New York University School of Law in 1962. He would join the Katonah firm Covey, Roberts, and Carmody-Roberts, eventually becoming the Managing Partner until his retirement in 2024. He was elected as Town Justice for the Town of Lewisboro in 1970 and served with distinction for 34 years, in addition to contributing his expertise to the Westchester County Bar Association as an Ethics Committee member and Chairman of the Grievance Committee. George’s career as an attorney and judge was dedicated to treating all people with justice and dignity. He garnered many accolades, including District Leader of the Year by the New York State Assembly in 2016 and Citizen of the Year by the Lewisboro Chamber of Commerce in 1998 George was an active member of the Katonah and Lewisboro community, including as a volunteer fireman in Goldens Bridge Fire Department for over 25 years and as an assistant scoutmaster for the Goldens Bridge troop affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America for more than a decade. He served as legal counsel to the Katonah-Lewisboro school district and numerous fire districts in northern Westchester. George was predeceased by his wife Linda, whose eternal love and partnership seamlessly coexisted eventually in both his personal and professional lives. Working side-by-side at Covey, Roberts, and Carmody-Roberts ranked among his happiest and proudest moments. He established a scholarship in her name at Hofstra Law School, her alma mater, and was always proud to meet the recipients who shared her commitment to elder law. George loved spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “Baba”, traveling the world and playing golf at Waccabuc Country Club, where he was a long-time member. More than anything he will be remembered for his unbridled love of life, his perpetual good humor, and his unyielding dedication to his family and friends. He felt immense pride in being a father to Justin Roberts and his wife Kristin, and Adam Roberts and his wife Eva. He cherished his six grandchildren: Ronan, Jamie, Ford, Zane, Maya and Owen, and his nephews, David Spinola, Sean Carmody and Kevin Carmody, and his niece, Kristin Shah. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 16th from 3-7pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Rd., Katonah. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption, 55 Valley Road, Katonah, NY at 10am on Friday, July 17th. Interment will be private. |
