Saturday Afternoon Car Rollover
By Lieutenant of Rescue Raymond Baker Jr.
July 15, 2017
Just as Golden's Bridge Firefighters were clearing an EMS call at around 3:15 in the afternoon on Saturday July 15th, they were dispatched along with Westchester EMS & Mutual Aid Ambulances to I684 Northbound in the area of mile marker 19.5 for a reported motor vehicle accident with a vehicle rollover. All 3 Chief officers signed on responding within seconds of dispatch. Engine 140 would be only minutes behind the chiefs. With Tanker 1 only seconds behind Engine 140. Car 2141 was first on scene and reported a vehicle rolled over and one victim ejected from her seat into the trunk area of the SUV and that he would advise on extrication. As units were responding Car 2141 gave an additional update that there was confirmed entrapment and that Engine 140 would need to put the Hurst extrication equipment to work upon arrival. When Engine 140 arrived on scene, half the crew was assigned to setting up the Hurst tools, while the other half stretched a precautionary hose line. When Tanker 1 arrived, they were put into a blocking position to protect the scene and all the emergency workers. Mutual Aid Ambulances from Westchester EMS & North Salem VAC were on scene and transported the occupants of the vehicles to the local hospital for further evaluation. Golden’s Bridge Fire wa on scene for about an hour before the vehicle was removed and units went back in service.
